Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
I have a big soft spot for Krull. Had it had a more charismatic lead, a better ending and a badass boomerang throwing knife device that is used more than twice in the fucking movie, it would be a movie held in geek reverence today.
I acknowledge the movie’s flaws, but what works works so damn well. The effects (minus the end monster) are great, the character relationships I love, the supporting cast including Liam Neeson, Robbie Coltrane, Freddie Jones and David Battley and James Horner’s score is epic. Think about the modern state of movie scores. When cheesy B-movies like Krull kick the shit out of 95% of today’s tentpole movie scores something is very wrong in the industry.
Dare I say Krull is ripe for a remake and I wouldn’t mind them doing it Cape Fear style and importing Horner’s score over a great, swashbuckling sci-fi/fantasy adventure story. It’s a movie that doesn’t quite fire on all pistons, which makes it fall short of the promise of the established world.
Anyway, today’s picture is from the Widow of the Web sequence and comes from the good folks within the Practical Effects Group. Pictured is Steve Archer putting some final touches on that creepy translucent spider and it’s web.
