Ninety years ago The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day was a freak. Today, it’s an amateur.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

Time After Time is one of the best character-actor driven films of all time. Don’t get me wrong, I love John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Bogart, Brando, Clooney, Ford and their like, but I’ve always been partial to character actors, which is one of the reasons I love the ‘70s so much. It seems character actors got to play lead in films much more often.

Time After Time is directed by Wrath of Khan’s Nicholas Meyer and stars Malcolm McDowell as HG Wells and David Warner as Jack the Ripper. The film supposes that HG Wells’ time machine was real and he was also buddies with the guy who ended up being Jack the Ripper. When the slasher steals his time machine, Wells follows him to “modern day” San Francisco.

It’s a great film and both McDowell and Warner are fantastic in it. If you haven’t seen it, seek it out. It’s at once a fish-out-of-water comedy, a sci-fi flick and a true-blue thriller.

Today’s shot is of Meyer (left) directing McDowell and his leading lady, Mary Steenburgen. Thanks to Sandy Cotreau for sending this one along. And apologies to whichever magazine this came from. If I knew, I’d give ya’ a shout out as well. Click to enlargen!
