Houston! Return To THE DARK CRYSTAL This Saturday At Alamo Kids Club!

(Yes, this is fan made... but I dig it a lot, so there.)

Nordling here.

With all this talk of the summer of 1982, one movie seems to have slipped a lot of people's attention.  Granted, it didn't open that summer, but during Christmas, so while it's a 1982 film it's not a part of the greatness that was the summer releases.  But it's no less an amazing movie and achievement - Jim Henson and Frank Oz's THE DARK CRYSTAL, the epic dark fantasy with Gelflings, Skeksis, Podlings, and an Aughra.  I haven't seen it in years myself, so I'm curious what time has done to it in my eyes.  But it's this month's Alamo Kids Club film, and we're screening it this Saturday at noon.  As always, it's free!

I don't think I even saw this one in the theater that year, but I remember watching it many times on cable that following year.  The film cost $15 million to make (a really large sum at the time for what was a pretty weird movie to begin with) and I remember it being visually amazing.  If you're worried that this may be a bit dark for the wee set, you can always prime them up with LABYRINTH, which while lighter still dips its toe into darker waters from time to time.

I'll see you this Saturday!  I hope the movie holds up to how I remember it, and I'm sure a new generation will be amazed by the power of THE DARK CRYSTAL.

Nordling, out.  Follow me on Twitter!
