Just heard that the game that Bluth is working on would be DRAGON'S LAIR 3-D, and that he's also supposedly interested in developing it into a possible feature film. That is all...
Dagnamit! All these rumors and grumblings and press releases and shit about FOX ANIMATION firing tons of folks, and basically giving up on Animation... just pisses me off to no end. I'm looking forward to TITAN AE. Hell, while I'll admit that ANASTASIA has big flaws, I liked it as much as say... CINDERELLA (though admittedly CINDERELLA [with the exception of bippety boppity boo] isn't one of my fave faves). For anyone wanting to start a features animation division... Try this. Buy MARVEL COMICS or in the case of Warner Brothers just begin making you DC comic characters into classy, well written, PG to PG-13 animated badass feature animated films. Don't compete with Disney in the cutsie poo... Go in a different direction. COMPLETELY! Sigh... Of course that's just me. Here we go. Boy, I'd a liked to have seen a real nice animated JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS... sigh... Oh... and wouldn't this be... DRAGON'S LAIR 3?
Hey Harry,
FOX Animation is closing down, not because they don't have talent... TITAN A.E. should actually do well if they learned the lesson Warner Bros. did from the Iron Giant -- you actually have to advertise the movie for people to show up! They were set to open Memorial Day weekend, but quickly changed their mind when Disney announced that would be the weekend Dinosaurs is opening. I have seen the TITAN, and it is going to be dynamic -- fast paced and awesome character design!
Anyway... word has it that Don Bluth and Gary Goldman have an itch for a sequel to the greatest arcade game of all time -- Dragon's Lair! I remember gladly spending 50 cents a game and shooting my entire allowance out the window in a half-hour to be Dirk the Daring! I am not sure what the story will center around yet, but Don and Gary are sick and tired of the bureaucracy of 20th Century FOX and (not so secretly anymore) blame them for the FOX Animation closing down. So, they are ditching movies all together and are in negotiations to purchase the equipment at FOX Animation to start up a gaming company.
As a side note, rumor has it around FOX that Jason and the Argonauts was set to be their first film -- it would have been dynamic and adventurous! But... they scrapped it cause the wife of a "suit" at 20th Century loved the story of Anastasia. Bad management is always the beginning of the end!
