He'd been circling the project for weeks, but now Russell Crowe is committed - he will play Noah, the man who took the line "We're going to need a bigger boat" to the extreme in Darren Aronofsky's titular film, according to Deadline. This won't be the first time Crowe's set sail for open seas - there's the Peter Weir masterpiece MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD, but I don't think Crowe's wrangled that many animals before. Kidding aside, I think Crowe's perfect for the larger-than-life part, and he'll do very well in the role.
There's also a "villain" role up for grabs (other than the Flood), which it's been reported that Aronofsky is interested in Liam Neeson for, and the idea of these two squaring off sounds very appealing. But Aronofsky tackling a Biblical epic with Crowe as the star is already pretty appealing already. We'll see how the rest of the cast shakes out.
