Brett Ratner Wants I WANT MY MTV!!

The Kidd here...

Popularized by Dire Straits in the 1985 classic "Money For Nothing," "I want my MTV" became the statement of an entire generation that grew up with a promising new cable network that brought music to television in a way that hadn't been attempted before, long before the crews of JERSEY SHORE and THE HILLS ruined its legacy.

Last October, Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum teamed up to release the book I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, which was an oral history of the beginning and rise of MTV as told by musical artists, VJs, directors and execs. Now Brett Ratner wants to adapt it into a feature film.

According to Variety, Ratner is in talks with Sony to transform the book into a film, serving as a producer for now but with the possibility for him to direct, Jody Lambert (WELCOME TO PEOPLE) being given the task of writing the script.

I don't expect Ratner to go this route, but wouldn't this make more sense as a documentary about that first decade of MTV, as opposed to trying to find anyone who could fill the shoes of Downtown Julie Brown or even Kurt Loder for that matter?
