The 18TH BRUSSELS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF FANTASY THRILLER & SCIENCE-FICTION FILMS (from 17 march till 1st April 2000)

Hello, Edgard here. This is some info on the next very cool Sci-Fi Festival of Brussels. I have been there a few times and this is a great event. Very fun. Full of fans. Only problem (which is also an advantage) : the movie theatres are small... which means it's quickly sold out (which also means it has a "human" size). Some events are organised during the two weeks : an "Unusual Fashion Show" (on the 19th March) and - a must-see - the "Ball of Vampires" (on April 1st)... Lots of actors and directors are showing up (not necessarily the most important ones, but the ones who have something to say)... so if you are around Brussels in the next two weeks try to go !! (unfortunately I really can't do it this year).

Here are some of the movies shown during the Festival (if you want more info, check the website : http://www.cinemaniacs.be/bifff/ANGL/films/films00.htm) :

- The "big" ones.... "A Stir of Echoes", "Double Jeopardy", "Eye of the Beholder", "Galaxy Quest", "Pitch Black", "Cut" (the Australian slasher à la Scream), "Promenons-nous dans les bois" (the French slasher à la Scream)...

- Some curiosities... "Animal Farm" (live action animation adapted from George Orwell's book, with Pete Postlewaithe and the voices of Patrick Steward, Julia Ormond...); "Freeway 2 : Confessions of a Trickbaby"; "Gamera 3 : The revenge of Iris"; "Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2." (the animated sequel); "The Crow 3 - Salvation"...

- Some weird European movies : "An eye for an eye" (Finland - Atro Lahtela); "Curiosity and the Cat" (Germany - Christian Alvart), "Muertos de Risa" ("Dying of Laughter", Spain, the new movie of "Accion Mutante" and "El Dia de la Bestia" director Alex De La Iglesia); "Do not Disturb (The Netherlands, Dick Maas with Jennifer Tilly and Denis Leary); "Following" (UK, Christopher Nolan); "Blood" (UK, Charly Cantor); "Possessed" (Denmark, Anders Ronnow-Klarlund with Udo Kier); "Why Get Married the Day the World Ends ?" (Belgium, Harry Cleven); "Vuoti a Perdere" ("No Deposit, No Return", Italy, Massimo Costa); "Los sin Nombre" ("The Nameless", Spain, Ramsey Campbell)...

- Also from the USA of course..."Fever" (Alex Winter, with Henry Thomas); "New Blood" (Michael Hurst, with John Hurt and Carrie-Anne Moss); "New Rose Hotel" (Abel Ferrara); "Pilgrim" (from "Xena" and "Hercules" director Harley Cokeliss, with Ray Liotta), "Terror Frimer" (the Troma movie from Lloyd Kaufman), "The 4th Floor" (Josh Klausner, with Juliette Lewis and William Hurt); "The Convent" (Mike Mendez), "The Minus Man" (Hampton Foncher, with Owen Wilson and Sheryl Crow)...

- Japan... Hideo Nakata 's "Chaos" and "Ring 2", "Spriggan" (animation film adapted from the manga "Striker"), "Gemini", "Hypnosis", "Charisma"...

And many more from Canada, South America, Australia and New Zealand....
