To calm the fears of everyone, this reader dug up the actual deal between Ghibli and Disney, and guess what? Looks like the earlier paranoid person was unfounded. YEA!!!!!!!!! I really didn't want to see Disney chop up one of Miyazaki's works. So rest easy, all is safe!!!
Your informant is totally incorrect on the issue of the Mononoke Hime and the "G" rating. The only way that Disney was able to get the distribution rights to the films was by signing that they would not chop them or mess with them one iota. That was the only way that studio Ghibli (the studio that Miyazaki works for) would let them even touch the films.
We anime fans have been following this story for a loooooong time and proof of this "untouchability clause" is at the following address: "http://www.nausicaa.net/~miyazaki/disney/dtdeal.html"
