SXSW: Loony Toon chimes in on RATED X and LIVE NUDE GIRLS LIVE!

Hey folks, Harry here. From the deep back right hand area of cel country, springs out Loony Toon. He/She/It is a dab of technicolor celluloid paints, and on this particular evening, this paint blotter, was dabbing his brush into RATED X and a film called LIVE NUDE GIRLS LIVE. So... Enjoy...

Okay Head Geek,

Since you referred to those surrounding you on friday as loons, you can call me Loony Toon. I was the cat sitting next to Tom Joad at the paramount. I gots a scoop for ya.

Tonight I went to the Dobie and saw, what may prove to be teh two most seen films at the festival. Live Nude Girls Unite, and Rated X: The Porn Industry.

What a double feature! Live Nude Girls and a film about Porn?!?!? Well, what these films ultimately have in common are the workings of the sex industry, and both are cute and touching in their own way.

First of all, we have Live Nude Girls Unite! This is a documentary on a peep show operation out of Frisco called the Lady Luck. Teh women working there were tired of the poor working conditions and decided to Unionize. The documentarian is stripper Julia Query, who was there. This gem of a film focuses on not so much stripping, but the organization of a union in such an industry. These ladies go through hardship after hardship but in the end....well, see the film. An interesting subplot is well, see Julia's mom knows she's a lesbian, however, she doesn't know that she is a stripper. We see the confrontation between her and her mother, and the reaction. This is a simple film, about political organization, a nice compliment to last nights Steal this Movie!

After coming out, I was all set to go to the Shafted party, when low and behold, another movie about sex? What was I to do? So I waited and saw this one to.

Rated X is beautiful. From low camera speeds to nice 16mm to super 8 it used multimedia the way it should be used. This film comes from a filmmaker, much in the same vain as Beyond the Mat, (which I also saw today.) This young man grew up on porn, and wanted to see what kind of people would do such a thing for a living. Well, we meet an interesting cast of characters, such as Bill Margold, papa bear to the San Fernado porn industry, Jeanna Fine, lovely housewife porn star, and Reagan Santers, a man lovingly called a cockroach by his peers. While this film is nice, some times you wonder where it's direction is. It touches on such issues as racisim in the industry, Sexually transmitted diseases and the ties between sexual molestation and willingness to embrace sexuallity differently and work in the Industry. The film builds to a climax where the director is asked to shoot a porn film, which he reluctantly concedes to. He determines that shooting sex is easy. Who'd of thought? Soooooo, see this film.

See both of these films kids, they are informative and super-fun. Try to meet Julia Query, she's here this week and is a really sweet/cool person.

See you on the flipside harry-my-man...

Loony Toon Out.
