Things to know about tonight’s “The Walking Dead”:
* It’s much better than the prior two 2012 episodes.
* There is no gender-mixing. Only women appear in the female scenes; only men appear in the male scenes.
* The dude scenes are better than the gal scenes, if you’re asking me. Though they contain effective moments, the girl scenes feel mostly like filler, and cover already well-trod thematic ground.
* There is no dialogue in the all-male teaser.
* Half the cast does not appear in this episode. If you’re dying to learn what’s doing with Glenn, Dale, Hershel, Carol, Carl, Daryl or T-Dawg, you’re going to have to wait another week.
* AMC says of “18 Miles Out”:
Rick and Shane come into conflict over the fate of an outsider. Andrea helps Hershel’s youngest daughter face a crucial decision.
* HBO says of tonight’s fifth episode of “Luck”:
After learning that Pint of Plain, Gus’ (Dennis Farina) Irish horse, has been tentatively scheduled to race the next day, Ace forces Escalante to swap out Leon for a more experienced jockey, to Joey’s (Richard Kind) chagrin. Marcus fears for his health and wonders why he’s so attached to Jerry, while Kagle (Peter Appel), who’s been fired from the racetrack, returns from a bender looking for a handout. Ace gives Claire a lucky check, and the two head to the track with Gus to watch Pint of Plain’s memorable debut.
Things to know about tonight’s “Luck”:
* Kagle is the security guard who didn’t place Jerry’s first-episode pick-six bet – the bet that made poker-fiend Jerry and his buddies rich.
* Brett Ratner will be interested to hear on Oscar night that the term “fag” is tossed about liberally.
* Nick Nolte is not given much to do. (He and his dog are back next week.)
* Kerry Condon remains fully clothed throughout.
