Hungry for some SATURDAY SHORTS? Bam! Kitchen's Open

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with an array of splendidly delicious shorts for your viewing pleasures. Last week's column tried to spook us, so to balance that awesomeness, today we're screening nonstop comedy fun. Below we have six slices of hilarious from some damn talented filmmakers. What's that? You're not a fan of comedy? That's cool (though odd), but be sure to come back next week for a random assortment of fun. Okay, I take it if you're still reading, you're reading to get into it. Without further ado I present this weeks shorts picks:

THE MASTER CLEANSE

Up first is a treat, the most recent short from Todd Strauss-Schulson (director of HAROLD AND KUMAR 3) and yeah, in case you were debating whether or not to try out one of those cleansing diets... this flick should provide some interesting insight.

"Can Kelly and Scott's relationship survive a juice cleanse — or will shit get too real?"

So there we have roughly 15 minutes of quality relationship problems highlighted in a rather funny/sad way. Not going to lie, the sex scene made me feel... well I think Todd's hit on some sort of fetish that I never knew existed, food sex all the way. Watching the two lovers' lives/relationship spiral out of control and then finding out that's some sort of relationship ritual leads me to think they're slightly crazy, but hey who am I to judge? Check out the Ulterior Productions' site here or Todd's site here or hey, follow him on Twitter: TheRealTSS.

SHEEPED AWAY

Up next we have a lovely animated film straight from the Netherlands from director Junaid Chundrigar. Rather than give my own spin on what the short's about, here's what he has to say:

"Sheeped Away tells the tale of a farmer who just wants to be with his beloved sheep. When a giant UFO enters his life to claim his sheep, what will he do to keep them safe from harm? And can he do this without waking his monstrous wife?

The whole point of making “Sheeped Away” was to make a tribute of sorts, to the old American cartoons I grew up with. They were not necessarily made for children but neither were they unwatchable for them. I wanted to make something just like that; something for both adults and kids. And adult kids like me.

It was a difficult process of 7 long months, but with the help of a lot of awesome talented people, I made it. I can’t thank them enough."

I might be going out on a limb here, but nothing pisses me off more than when aliens try to steal my sheep, so I guess this short really speaks to me. In all serious, the colors and style of this animation really seem to work along with the "out there" story of the film. The twist at the end can't help but put a smile on your face. Keep them coming Junaid! If you guys dug SHEEPED AWAY, check out more shorts on Junaid's vimeo page here and his website here.

A LITTLE BIT BEHIND

I get sent quite a few shorts that were made during a 48 film competition, and by no means am I saying "Don't send me yours!" But quite frankly not many of them really stand out as much as shorts where people have spent months working on... That might not make sense, but I think you get me. That said, the fact that our next short was knocked out in the span of 48 hours blows my mind. A LITTLE BIT BEHIND is seven and a half minutes of pure fun.

"One man struggles with a new life stuck in the past after a freak time machine accident.. He is hurled back into the past.... 3 seconds in the past. Now he must find a way to get 'back to the future."

A LITTLE BIT BEHIND from Chris Byrnes on Vimeo.

Chris Byrnes tapped into what could easily have been a punchline joke into a cute little flick. You had me at time traveller, but kept me with all of the lovable characters/actors like Steve's slow girlfriend.

Let's keep this party going on the  NEXT PAGE >
