Father Geek here, Those of you that are in the know on Harry's personal story are no doubt aware that the 2nd motion picture his Mom and I took him to see was CLOCKWORK ORANGE. He was 2 weeks old! Its amazing but since that time NO ONE in England where the film was made has been allowed to see it in a motion picture theatre, astounding. Well, the British holders to the keys to the projection booth have finally given up. Youth of England rejoice, you can now see one of your country's greatest film achievements for the very 1st time the way it was ment to be seen...
Hi Harry,Father Geek, etc al...
English Gent here.
Thought you might want to include a brief notice on your site for any British fans who visit regarding the fantastic news that the BAN on Kubrick's "Clockwork Orange" is lifted as of this weekend.
It will appear in cinemas all over the country over the next few weeks, and hopefully stay awhile.
BANNED since 1972 this means that, barring all the pirate videos we have speciously viewed, no-one under the age of 28 has seen this gem! With all the naysayers for "Eyes Wide Shut" (of which I was certainly not one) I think it should be advertised as broadly as possible that a genuine classic of modern cinema is back on British screens in over a generation. Thereby, anyone who didn't like the erotic fantasy can see what exactly all the fuss is about concerning Stan the Man. Hopefully a new generation will begin digging out Spartacus, Barry Lyndon, Strangelove, and my favourite 2001.
I know that in America you haven't had the BAN, but please don't underestimate the strength of feeling regarding this in the UK.
I reiterate: two generations of kids haven't seen this film!! Can you imagine such a state of affairs in your own country ? Shocking. Please help by posting a brief bit. The more that go and see it, the more chagrined the censors will be, and this can never be a bad thing.
Cheers for your help,
English Gent.
