Fathergeek bids farewell to the immortal artist JOHN SEVERIN...

One of my favorite people in the whole world has passed on. The outstanding Comic Artist/Illustrator JOHN SEVERIN, brother of the great comic colorist Marie Severin died 2/12/12 at the age of 90. Loved his cross genre EC work, westerns, war comics, and years of great "Cracked" covers & phantasic stories in "Mad" like his early mind blowing Tarzan spoof "Melvin of the Apes." Speak'n of "MAD" my con sketch book I've been haul'n around since the mid 1970's has a 2 page spread of art by John Severin, Don Martin, Matt Groening, & Aragones in it. I was lucky enough to talk & visit several times with John over the years, once he & Harvey Kurtzman were in my con booth at the same time talk'n about their days working for EC's Bill Gaines, and I still have a sizable check from Kevin Eastman taped in my sketchbook that I got for one of Severin's immortal color "CRACKED" back cover paintings. So long John I'll miss see'n new things by you... although you turned out so much great comic art it will seem like new pieces are popping up for years to come...
