Last week’s “Alcatraz” was a revealing one, the first to focus on a time-displaced guard, namely Guy Hastings.. Little screen time was afforded Jorge Garcia, and even less Parminder Nagra.
Robert Forster returned as former Alcatraz guard Ray Archer.
We learned:
* Guy was Ray’s training officer
* Girl detective Rebecca Madsen’s grandpa, Tommy Madsen, was secretly Ray Archer’s brother, and Ray changed his name to Archer to get a job guarding Tommy in Alcatraz. Which means Ray is actually Rebecca's grand-uncle
* Tommy rewarded his brother Ray by beating him up in front of the other Alcatraz prisoners and staff.
* The San Francisco Police Department probably didn’t bother with much of a background check when “Ray Archer” joined the force.
* Hauser offered Ray a job on his task force in 1996. And
* Time-displaced (but unincarcerated) convict Tommy Madsen had visited his brother Ray’s bar long before last week’s episode.
This is what Guy told his old buddy Ray:
“Where have I been? I haven’t been anywhere. I took my little one down to the dock and kissed her goodbye. That night I was on the north tower and the fog took all the stars away. In the morning I was in the infirmary. They told us there had been an accident. Our families were dead. Most of us guards were in there and they told us we were sick, contaminated. And that we couldn’t leave. And then it wasn’t 1963 anymore.”
I think that’s more than we’ve gotten out of Lucy Banerjee or Dr. Beauregard.
Fox says of tonight’s “Alcatraz,” “Paxton Petty”:
When our unlikely trio tracks former inmate Paxton Petty (James Pizzinato), a sick landmine bomber who has returned only to place bombs throughout populated areas of San Francisco, methods of the past are applied to the present.
