Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Now, I love, love, love this picture. As a kid I was exposed to quite a lot of television from my parent’s age thanks to Nick at Nite and various reruns. Dobie Gillis, Patty Duke, Mr. Ed, The Addams Family, The Monkees, Get Smart, Bewitched, The Munsters… They were all part of my viewing cycle as a kid, along with The Simpsons, Hey Dude, You Can’t Do That On Television, Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other more ‘80s kid appropriate.
So, I’ll always have a lot of love for these older shows, especially the weird ones like Addams Family and today’s featured show The Munsters. Fred Gwynne is so missed by me it’s not even funny. Thinking about him and his personality is like thinking on back on my own grandfather.
Today we see Gwynne and Al Lewis as Herman and Grandpa Munster goofing around with two make-up artists. Karl Silvera is on the left and the famous Perc Westmore on the right! The Westmores were a very well-known family of make-up artists and Perc’s brother Bud gained geek notoriety for helping bring Gill-Man to life in The Creature From the Black Lagoon. It’s only right that Perc got his turn at the Universal monsters in the ‘60s. Thanks again to the Practical Effects Group for unearthing this rare treasure (in color!) and sharing this awesome pic.
