Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Today we look at one of the go-to examples of remakes that work. David Cronenberg’s The Fly works because of it bringing a modern sensibility to a really cheesy ‘50s B movie and telling the tale in a rather grotesque, grim way.
My parents were very lax with my movie-watching as a kid, but for whatever reason the VHS tape that had both The Fly and Aliens on it was off limits. I doubt it was Aliens that caused them to put this one on top of their dresser where I couldn’t reach it (without a chair, I quickly figured out).
The Fly is just a gross movie. In tone, in execution, in photography… just gross. And that’s why I love it. Today we look at one of the effects technicians touching up some of the gross effects. Click to enlargen!

Wait! Tomorrow’s Behind the Scenes pic said not to go into the light!
