Ben Stiller, a major movie star thanks to his Focker and Museum movies, is planning a return to TV.
He’ll direct and star (likely opposite Alan Alda) in “All Talk,” an HBO sitcom pilot written by novelist Jonathan Safran Foer (“Everything Is Illuminated,” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”).
The series would follow the adventures of a Jewish family in Washington, D.C.
Stiller is no stranger to HBO, having played himself in four episodes of “Curb Your Enthusiasm’s” fourth season. Stiller also played the David Blaine-ish stage musician Tony Wonder in three latter-day episodes of “Arrested Development.”
If “All Talk” goes to series, it will presumably be Stiller’s first regular role on a TV series since he collaborated with Judd Apatow, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk on Fox’s “The Ben Stiller Show.”
The Hollywood Reporter suggests this would be Alda’s first regular TV role since “M*A*S*H,” but I seem to remember Alda’s face in the opening credits of “The West Wing.”
