Nordling here.
When I was at the Marvel Comics event in Houston celebrating the release of SCARLET SPIDER #1, Christopher Yost revealed that his work station at Marvel was right across from the editing bay for the new AVENGERS movie, and he said, "It's everything the fans want it to be." A ringing endorsement, and the crowd cheered. The closer we get to release, the more I think... THE DARK KNIGHT RISES may be the more serious comic book movie, but THE AVENGERS is going to be the more fun one.
Empire Magazine has released some new covers for their summer movie edition, and they look awesome. Here they are:
Nice, but where's the Hulk?! Oh well.
And Superhero Hype managed to grab a couple of lines from the article itself, where Kevin Feige talks about the various villains of the movie series so far and of this particular film. In regards to the Skrulls, or their equivalent, appearing in THE AVENGERS:
"Who said they were aliens?" he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? "Closer...It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that."
And is the Red Skull making an appearance? Feige says no... for now...:
"Was Skull vaporized at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?" asks Feige. "That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he's not in this one." Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. "I do have a comment on that," he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. "It's...oh, you're breaking up!"
At this point I don't care who the bad guy is; be it Loki, or the Skrull, or the Red Skull, or invisible exploding ninjas. I just can't wait to see this frigging thing.
