Shyamalan Teases AFTER EARTH Concept Pics

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with some interestingly vague pics from the Shyam himself. First and foremost AFTER EARTH seems like an interesting project that I for one am keeping an eye on. I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say I think everyone's expectations of Night's work has slowly drifted into the depths of not even "so bad it's good," but "Damn it! You made THE SIXTH SENSE... Come on!" He's clearly capabable of creating some incredible films, so I can't help but hold out hope that AFTER EARTH will be something grand and worthwhile. I guess only time will tell.

Germain over at Slash Film posted this story first I believe, but check out two pics from Shyamalan's Twitter and official website.

M. Night Shyamalan's photo This is Dean, an amazing illustrator. He's illustrating an early scene from the film. (I've picked tantalizingly vague pictures haven't I?)

Yes, yes you have Mr. Shyamalan. So okay, from what little we can tell there's a nice epicness to what Shyamalan's doing here in the vein of STAR WARS(?) Maybe not, but I can't get Cloud City out of my head while looking at that pic.

Next up is a pic of a bunch of small concept art pieces or reference pics on a wall. I'm curious as to who or what a "Kitai" is or "Humbolt" for that matter.

And then we have a pic of production designer Thomas E. Sanders (of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and BRAVEHEART among many other beautifully designed films) standing "in a redwood tree that has fallen over and split. This is one of our locations in N. Cali." So hello Endor or Isla Sorna... It does have a rather majestic otherworldy vibe to it though.

I hope more pics roll out as soon as they begin shooting in the next few weeks. Will Smith has been incredibly picky as to which projects his kids seem to be in (Okay, aside from the painfully pointless THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake), but honestly Jaden's got the chops to handle some great stuff and clearly works well opposite his dad. While these pics are intentionally vague and meant to tantalize the geeks out there, I can't help but hope what the Fresh Prince and Shyamalan have cooking up is something with some meat to it. The film is scripted by Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC) and Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI), so fingers crossed.
