Hey folks, Harry here. Den over at Movies.Ign.Com broke a scoop about Tim Burton apparently being approached about directing PLANET OF THE APES.
I can confirm this. Bill Broyles has recently finished his draft of the film, that Fox is trying to fast track... (really really really fast track) to roll out for a Summer 2001 event film. At the moment they are out to directors, and the director that they are talking with is Tim Burton. If he passes on the project expect other top directors to be hit next. The folks at Fox really want to get this project moving fast.
I can also confirm that Fox is guarding Broyles' script something fierce. BUt... if Burton doesn't bite and the script is sent to other directors via agents... Well... It'll be out soon enough.
As for Broyles' take on the project? That is anybody's guess at the moment. Broyles' work on THE CASTAWAY for Robert Zemeckis is extremely fine work. Which reminds me... Zemeckis and crew are gearing up to head to Fiji in April to finish the shoot for THE CASTAWAY. This is by far the toughest role we'll have ever seen Tom Hanks tackle. Especially when his co-star is a volleyball. (wait till you see it... then you'll get it) Adios...
