Well here comes Killer Kadoogan/Snow Fox/Spy From The Other Day with his last report from Sundance. This time it's THE CASTLE, which was his fave film he saw. So read on....
Hey, Harry. It's me The Snow Fox, aka Killer Kadoogan, aka The Spy from the Other Day reporting from Sundance for the final time. After having two of my screenings cancelled and getting kicked out of a panel (which, I guess, is what happens when you sneak in through a back door without a ticket) I was finally able to get into THE CASTLE.
I believe Miramax picked up this Australian film up for some obscene amount of seven-figure money. Miramax will make its money back. THE CASTLE is about an Australian family who are about to be evicted from their home so the local airport can expand its grounds. The joke, of course, is that no one would want to live on the lead-infested land fifteen feet from the airport that the family is being to vacate. Still, as the protagonist of the movie says, a home is a man's castle, so the family fights the airport all the way to the Queen's court.
THE CASTLE will be marketed as the next FULL MONTY, I think, because it's a charming foreign film depicting a group of losers that make good. I found THE CASTLE to be the superior film because it has more gutbusters and a more sound story structure with no loose ends dangling at the closing credits. THE CASTLE is a definite crowd-pleaser, sweet, funny and a nice upbeat ending. Wow. That was pretty short. Oh, well. See you next year.
