Writer-producer Stephen Moffat and the BBC confirmed via twitter Sunday night that the contemporary sleuthing drama “Sherlock” has been renewed for a third season.
The second season just concluded on the BBC and will air this spring on PBS.
Stars Benedict Cumberbatch ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "War Horse," next year’s “Star Trek: Talosian Justice”) and Martin Freeman ("Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy") are busy with film careers (both have big roles in Peter Jackson's upcoming "Hobbit" movies) -- but the TV series has so far only produced three movie-length episodes per season so it shouldn't be too hard for the actors to find time in their schedules.
Moffat, who scripted Steven Spielberg’s “Adventures of Tintin,” is also busy as ongoing showrunner of the BBC’s “Doctor Who” series.
