Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Total Recall hasn’t been ignored in this column and for good reason. It’s a big effects film, pre-digital revolution, featuring big budget Rob Bottin effects work, which means there are some really great BTS opportunities. From massive model work to Bottin’s trademark bizarre-awesome rubber and prosthetics work to Paul Verhoeven’s own particular brand of insanity and Schwarzenegger’s iconic hamminess there are some choice shots.
This one is my favorite so far, though. Kuato is a fascinating character brilliantly executed… he looks like a demonic newborn and the way he’s revealed in the movie is practically Cronenbergian. Now we can see how Kuato was brought to life by Bottin and his genius crew.
There’s a practical effects group filled with many of the effects technicians we all worship who are sharing many photos like this one, so a big thanks to them for being open with the fans who fight every day to keep practical effects from the brink of irrelevance.
Enjoy Kuato and click for the bigger version!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic will thrill you.
