A laughtracksitcom from writer-producers Andrew Reich & Ted Cohen (“Friends”), “Work It” follows a pair of long-unemployed fellows who dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps.
I’m a big fan of “Friends” and ABC’s old Tom Hanks sitcom “Bosom Buddies,” but “Work It” is insipid, 2012’s first truly terrible television series.
... could be seen as an insult to the transgender community, sure. But it's also an affront to all women, and men, and thinking adults. ...
... dreadful almost beyond comprehension: witless, tasteless, poorly acted, abominably written, clumsily directed, hideously lit and badly costumed. ...
... “Some Like It Hot”? Probably not. ...
... just not very good; the jokes creak and wheeze, and there is nothing in the performances to distract from the material....
... drivel …
... not funny. ...
... The laughs could not be thinner. …
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:
... yeah, it's pretty awful. …
The San Francisco Chronicle says:
Pretty much the best thing you can say about ABC's "Work It," a new sitcom that will follow (probably briefly) Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" on Tuesday night, is that it isn't as bad as the previous time slot occupant, "Man Up." ...
... The funniest part of “Work It” lies in ABC’s press materials, which describe the show as a “high-concept comedy.” ...
… does not work thanks in large part to clunky writing full of racial stereotyping, sexism, and general dunderheadedness. …
... aims so low, to paraphrase another artifact from the "Bosom Buddies" era, it could practically play handball against the curb. …
8:30 p.m. Tuesday. ABC.
