John Ary here with a quick look at a few action figure lines that are making headlines this week...
2012 Vintage Star Wars Wave 1 from Hasbro
The only thing “vintage” about this new set of Phantom Menace figures is the packaging style. On the upside, there are a few first timers here with Ben Quadinaros & Otoga, Daultay Dofine, a Naboo Royal Guard, and Ratts Tyerell getting their first figures. On the downside, we get an entire wave of Episode I toys. These will release in February. We have individual pics of each figure pack posted here.
Revoltech Iron Man Mark II and III from Kaiyodo
Be on the lookout for 2 new deluxe Iron Man movie figures. Both the Mark II and III toys will feature an interchangeable Tony Stark head and translucent orange rocket thrust projections for his boots. The Mark II releases in February with the Mark III arriving in March.
DC All-Stars Wave 2 from Mattel
The lucky folks over at ComicBookResources.com got the first look at this wave of 6-inch DC Universe figures. A New 52 version of Superman and Flash, black costume Supergirl and Red Robin will arrive at retail in early 2012.
South Park Series 4 from Mezco
The boys are back for another round of vinyl goodness. Beefcake Cartman, Tweek and Timmy go on sale in June.
The Amazing Spider-Man from Mega Bloks
Thanks Mega Bloks for the new package pics of your upcoming building sets from the new Spider-Man movie. Double thanks for spoiling a plot point that happens later in the film. One of the boxes entitled “Oscorp Tower FX Battle” gives away a minor plot detail. SPOILER: The set includes Spider-Man, the Lizard and “SWAT Lizard.” This seems to backup previous reports that Doctor Connors transforms an entire SWAT team into lizard monsters.
And speaking of Spider-Man... Here's the absolute worst idea for a toy ever. Hopefully this will be the last superhero figure armed with marital aids that we see at Toys R Us for awhile...
