ScoreKeeper Goes Insane Over Jerry Goldsmith's GREMLINS Score and Has Five Copies to Give Away!!!

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here beside myself brimmed with unbridled joy. I have been writing about film music for Ain't It Cool News for more than five years. During that span I have covered countless coveted film music titles released by a handful of labels into the hearts and homes of eager soundtrack collectors across the globe. I have waxed poetically the release of THE RIGHT STUFF (1983), COMMANDO (1985), THE KARATE KID (1984), PREDATOR (1987), AIRPLANE! (1980), SPACECAMP (1986), TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE (1983), THE BLACK HOLE (1979), CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981) and many many others too numerous to list.

All of these titles are personal "holy grails" which I have longed to acquire and add to my personal collection; however, none of them match the excitement I felt when Film Score Monthly announced their latest release on Retrograde Records.

It took twenty-seven years but Jerry Goldsmith's seminal score for GREMLINS (1984) has finally been released on CD!

I can't think of too many titles I have pined over as badly as GREMLINS. For years I thought it would never happen. With labels dishing out soundtrack goodies every week, I assumed they all tried to get GREMLINS but ran into snags along the way preventing its release.

I've been listening to the score all week and it's more amazing than I ever could have hoped. Goldsmith's signature amalgam of synthesizers and orchestral textures maintain the perfect balance between creepiness and comicalness. Even for a man as melodic as Goldsmith was, GREMLINS showcases two of the best themes he ever composed: the beautiful theme for Gizmo and the spot-on perfect "Gremlins Rag" for Stripe and his gang of mischievous cohorts…and I never realized Goldsmith peppered his score with so many "cat wails." What a damn cool score ingredient!

I usually let labels approach me with contest and giveaway ideas but with GREMLINS I wanted to share the opportunity to own this magnificent and long-coveted score for yourself. I called Lukas at FSM and asked if he'd be interested in doing a GREMLINS CD giveaway on AICN. His response was an immediate "yes!"

I now have in my possession five copies of Jerry Goldsmith's complete score for GREMLINS courtesy of Retrograde Records and Screen Archives Entertainment. If you would like to try to win a copy for yourself, here's what you have to do.

Just send me an email to scorekeeper@aintitcool.com using the subject: I LOVE GOLDSMITH'S GIZMO! and include your name, mailing address, a valid email address, your most coveted "holy grail" soundtrack release and a brief sentence or two about what GREMLINS (the film, the score, whatever) means to you. I'll gather up all the entries, shine them in the light, get them plenty wet and then feed them all after midnight. The five random entries that turn into Gremlins will receive a copy of GREMLINS on CD. The deadline for submission is Sunday, November 27th, at 11:59pm EST. Only one entry per person. International entries will be accepted. Duplicates will be discarded.

That's it. Get your entries in today and have a very Happy Thanksgiving! Soundtrack fans have a lot to be thankful for...GREMLINS is definitely one of them!
