Screen Great Jim Varney Has Passed

It's true, I wish it wasn't, this really makes me incredibly sad. I have been, and always will be, a fan of Jim Varney. The CNN story about his passing is at http://www.cnn.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/Movies/02/10/varney.obit.ap/index.html.

From Dr. Otto to the Dust Bunny, Jed Clampett, Slinky Dog, and of course Ernest P. Worrell, this fine fellow frequently made me laugh my fool head off. He had one of the best kids shows EVER on television, rivaling the greatness of Pee Wee's Playhouse, and a good number of films, two of which are yet to be released.

I don't know how to pay fitting tribute to this fellow. I just ran across the story at random, and it still seems unreal. There aren't many truly original comic minds in this world, and Jim was one of them. Very few comics can appeal to the innocence of children and the warped minds of adulthood, but Jim did it all the time; it was second nature to him. I dare say that if the airwaves today were filled with more fine people like Jim, our children and our adults would both be much happier for it.

Please post your kind words and share remembrances of our friend Jim. Let's send him off with the love he deserves.

-El Cosmico.
