Is A Sequel To X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Coming?

Nordling here.

Surprisingly enough, the two prequels from Fox Studios this year were quite successful, both creatively and at the box office.  Although X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is not perfect (the way the film wraps up everything in a tidy little bow is disconcerting, considering that tt could have opened up more and left some of that stuff for future films), I still found it full of ideas and terrific characters.  Michael Fassbender's Magneto, especially, was wonderful to watch.  I think most people agree that they would have been happy watching MAGNETO: NAZI HUNTER for two hours with little complaint.

Now Superhero Hype reports that Fox is making their move to get a second film in this series, hiring Simon Kinberg to write the sequel to FIRST CLASS.  With this news and the news of the hiring of Andy Serkis for the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES sequel, it looks like someone at Fox sees the potential in these two franchises.  Kinberg, no stranger to the X-MEN franchise - he's one of the producers of the first film and a writer on THE LAST STAND - would presumably bring the story into the 1970s, but that's just assumption on my part.

What should probably happen next is the actors from FIRST CLASS returning, especially Fassbender and James MacAvoy.  But would Matthew Vaughn return to the director's chair?  There have been reports of strife between Vaughn and the studio in terms of budget, but Vaughn turned in a very good film in spite of all that, so they may want to stick with a known quantity when it comes to the director.  I hope he returns - FIRST CLASS was as well-directed as it was written, and I think Vaughn has made some great movies at this point.

So what say you?  What stories would you like to see Fox and company take on in the FIRST CLASS sequel?  Nordling, out.
