Showtime & Netflix to team with Fox for a new Arrested Development season? Is the movie finally becoming a reality?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. What makes this round of “OMG! Arrested Development is coming back!?!?” different than the last few dozen? Well, instead of Jason Bateman saying “Yeah, Mitch Hurwitz is writing and I want to do it. Maybe someday…” we have the entire cast and Hurwitz appearing on a panel at the New Yorker Festival giving a specific plan.

That plan is to have a limited 10 episode run before jumping into a movie version. All the cast is onboard, with Bateman tweeting “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!”

Hot on the heels of that comes a Deadline story saying that 20th Century Fox TV is talking with Netflix and Showtime to team up to make that series a reality.

I know it’s easy to be cynical with an Arrested Development return as we’ve been burned many times before, but this feels real to me. If you want to see the show return, drop the cynicism. I guarantee you the money guys who would make this a reality are watching fan reaction and if all they see is rampant cynicism that might hurt the possibility of this actually happening.

If you think it’s a bad idea and don’t want to see the world revisited by the cast and creative team, then by all means voice that opinion, but if you want to see it don’t be a grinch. This is only good news.
