Do You Feel The Need...The Need For...3D?!

Merrick here...

The Powers That Be appear to be prepping a 3D theatrical reissuance of Tony Scott's 1986 jets and manly men opus TOP GUN.

A four-minute 'world premiere' preview of the converted film--featuring the 'Danger Zone' aerial flight sequence--was screened Monday at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.

Per Rob Hummel, CEO of Legend3D, which is handling the conversion of the film...

"As I understand it, they are planning to release it in 3D in early 2012, though I known they want to get Tony Scott’s approval before they go forward,"

All per THIS piece in THR.

Another Paramount "classic"...James Cameron's TITANIC...is also being converted into 3D for a theatrical re-release Spring 2012 (April if memory serves).  Considering how slowly Abrams' TREK sequel is moving, perhaps Paramount should go ahead and convert TREK 2009 as well?  And maybe if Sony had released BUCKY LARSON: BORN TO BE A STAR in 3D, it would've pulled in more than $1.45 million this weekend. So many possibilities (although I kinda doubt it...)
