Schwarzenegger And Willis To Have "Substantial" Roles In EXPENDABLES 2?

Nordling here.

Realize this is a bit late as it made the rounds yesterday, but I thought it was worthy to post about.  As we know, Simon West is directing the second installment of THE EXPENDABLES, and many of the actors are returning for another go-round, including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren (who really was damn good in the original film, the best thing in it, imo) and Mickey Rourke.  Now rumors are coming around that Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme may be coming to play as well, which is fine with me.  If they could throw in Spuds McKenzie and that guy who talks fast in the old FedEx commercials, I'm all for it.  Hell, let's get Ralph Macchio with his Special Crane Kick Of Murder to go after the bad guys.  It would be perfect.

But the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis are returning, and that their roles will be beefed up (so to speak) makes me really happy.  I enjoyed the hell out of the original, although I could definitely see room for improvement.  But Terry Crews' Magical Automatic Shotgun pretty much ruled the movie for me, and if that piece of Willy Wonkaesque machinery shows up again, I'll be a happy man.

But I'm curious to see what Arnold and Bruce's characters would be.  In the first film, if I remember correctly, Arnold was the head of another group of mercs, possibly a rival to Barney Ross's.  And Bruce Willis as the guy who sends them on their way, well, he seems to have something a bit sinister about him, and I'd be interested in seeing what he really does for the U.S. government.  These three going head-to-head-to-head would be fine by me.

And one request - for a movie called THE EXPENDABLES, they didn't seem all that expendable, as no one really died.  Not saying kill people off arbitrarily, but it would be nice to see someone sacrifice something instead of smiling through every explosion.  THE EXPENDABLES 2 comes out next year.

Nordling, out.
