Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood is reporting that new Oscars producer Brett Ratner (same fellow who directs all those “Rush Hour” movies) is hot to get Eddie Murphy to host the Oscars this year.
Murphy is the star of “Tower Heist,” Ratner’s first big-screen feature since 2007’s “Rush Hour 3.”
“I’m told that a lot of big names have approached the other 84th Academy Awards producer Don Mischer saying they are interested in hosting, and Don is fielding those calls,” writes Finke. “But insiders tell me that Ratner since getting the Academy Awards producing gig has only been talking to one person: Eddie.”
Murphy did a swell job co-hosting the Emmys in 1983 (with Joan Rivers!) and hosting MTV’s Video Music Awards in 1985, but he’s not yet hosted the Oscars.
