The Review of HELLBOY over at Dark Horizons!

Hey folks, Harry here. As I do every night... Between updates, I bop over to Dark Horizons, Coming Attractions, Hollywood Reporter and Variety... and much to my delight tonight, I found that a spy named Hank Quinlan (very cool spy name I might add!) has written up a review of a Guillermo Del Toro draft of HELLBOY. Well... heh. It's funny really. This review absolutely NAILS the spirit of Del Toro's draft. EXCEPT....
"The Bureau is kind of like a government freak show in this script, and some of the human agents disdain the monsters, like Hellboy and his pal Abe Sapien, a fish-man. In the comic Hellboy is more than able to take care of himself, respected by his fellow agents, and doesn't need to be shackled. HB's relationship with his bureau is the only real problem I have with the script. "
It's obvious to me that he has the same draft that I reviewed months back... or the draft right after that one... because in the current drafts of the HELLBOY script... HELLBOY is no longer chained up as a standard way of containment... and gets along with just about everyone at the BPRD except for Tom Manning... and is much closer to the way HELLBOY is portrayed in his relationship with the BPRD in the comics.
And... Right now, I'm a bit in mourning about HELLBOY. You see, Guillermo has been bleeding tears to get this project made. Draft after draft, and surprisingly... they are actually getting better, even though each time Guillermo tells me he's doing another pass.. I shrug and twitch... knowing that there is a chance that he'll get too far away from the original script I loved. Instead... After each draft... I want to see this movie made more.
Guillermo has a lot on his plate right now. It looks like he'll most likely be shooting a film in Spain called THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE (produced with someone named PEDRO ALMODOVAR), which is a very scary and intense film that could only be made in another country. You see... Guillermo wants to make a movie where he is completely free to be Guillermo... Just as he was on the brilliant CRONOS. He's being approached with various directing gigs... His MONTECRISTO seems to be just on the brink of being made... and then there is HELLBOY. A sure fire hit for him. Most of the financing is actually... surprisingly in place for this film. He just needs a domestic partner. Somewhere over at RICK BAKER's secret laboratories is a finished sculpt of HELLBOY. Guillermo has shown me pictures... My god I want to see this movie.
Meanwhile... Go read the scoop at Garth's page... funny what happens when Guillermo heads to Utah. Keep your fingers crossed for this project.
