Ben Affleck Directing A First Person Shooter Thriller?

Nordling here.

Ben Affleck's proved his chops as a director.  Both GONE BABY GONE and THE TOWN are damn good thrillers and both feature terrific performances.  So it stands to reason that Hollywood is paying attention and giving him bigger budgets to work with.  I love the idea behind his next film ARGO - the CIA fakes a science fiction movie production to rescue hostages in Iran - and I bet it's going to be a real treat.  But Affleck isn't done directing, and he seems to be going the Clint Eastwood route, both directing and starring in his own films.

Now Ben Affleck may be making a more direct action film, according to Hollywood Reporter, as he is currently in negotiations to star and direct in LINE OF SIGHT.  The plot is about an elite commando squadron that is transporting important cargo while trying to handle a more global threat.  Seems pretty vague, but the treatment is very specific on the shooting style - LINE OF SIGHT is conceived as being shot in the style of a first-person shooter videogame.  One of the writers who worked on the script, Peter O'Brien, also wrote HALO: REACH, so the pedigree for the conceit is there.  I think Affleck's proven himself with intense thriller material, and this one sounds very intriguing indeed.

Nordling, out.
