Beaks here...
Ben Wheatley's KILL LIST is a British crime/horror hybrid that inspires dread, then revulsion, then abject terror, then, after you've steadied yourself with a stiff drink (or a head-clearing lap or ten around the block), admiration. You don't watch KILL LIST; you survive it. To my mind, it's the best horror film since Takashi Miike's AUDITION. Content-wise, I could compare it to a couple of other genre classics, but then I'd be revealing way too much. The film opens September 2nd in the U.K., and will get a U.S. theatrical/VOD release from IFC at some point (hopefully this year). Do not miss it.
Unsurprisingly, the smart folks at the U.K.-based production company Big Talk were so impressed by Wheatley's second film (his first being the gangster flick DOWN TERRACE) that they've decided to get behind his third picture, SIGHTSEERS, which is described by The Playlist as "a dark comedy about a pair of psychotic caravaners". It's based on a screenplay by Alice Lowe and Steve Oram, who will also star, and is set to begin shooting in about six weeks. Edgar Wright will executive produce.
From there, Wheatley told The Playlist he'll quickly move on to the "knockabout comedy" I, MACROBANE starring Nick Frost. Here's how Wheatley described the film to Bloody Disgusting back in March:
It’s about two guys who, when they were kids, burned their school down. They’ve been sent to separate detention centers never to be seen together again, and then they meet up in their late thirties and go on a rampage.
Things are happening quickly for Wheatley, and when you finally see KILL LIST for yourself, I think you'll agree that it's all incredibly well-deserved.
