Wheaties' (sorry I couldn't help myself)

Ok get ready for some angry discussion in newsgroups for days on end. Kurt Vonnegut's fantastic novel BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS is going to lens soon. In some circles this novel had been considered an unfilmable novel. Well, now... well, I'll let ol Daredevil tell you, he's brave as hell. Personally I'm looking forward to it, because well I like the film versions of Slaughterhouse Five and MotherNight, and personally I don't think "Breakfast" is unfilmable, it could be VERY good.

This is Daredevil the man without fear. I've picked something up with my radar all the way out in Idaho and figured you'd be interested.

You all know about ARMAGEDDON and MURCURY RISING, the two Bruce Willis movies advertised during the Superbowl. What you probably haven't heard about is his next one. BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS is based on the Kurt Vonnegut novel of the same name and will be a much lower budget movie than either of the other two at around $9 million (compared to ARMAGEDDON's $100 million). I don't know much about the story and haven't read the book, but Willis will play a car salesman named Dwayne Hoover who kind of goes crazy after reading some book. It will be directed by Alan Rudolph, who made MORTAL THOUGHTS with Willis in '91. Bruce will also serve as producer.

The movie will be filmed largely in my hometown of Twin Falls, Idaho and in various other locations in Idaho. It looks to be a bit of a divergence from his usual films. The local paper quoted Willis as saying that "I don't feel when I'm working in the action film genre I'm doing my best work" and "This is an artistically driven film. This isn't a Bruce Willis film. It's about a group of actors coming together for a story that holds out hope at the end."

They start filming Feb. 28th. Bruce was responsible for choosing Twin Falls for the movie. Mainly because it's within driving distance from his home in Sun Valley. He also says that they liked the "varied looks, old and new neighborhoods, and thriving retail strips". "For this film," he said, "we couldn't have designed a better city in America. It depicts a perfect slice of American culture." Since the movie is trying to show the prosperity of the American dream, I really can't think of a city that would depict that much better, or maybe I'm just biased.

As I said before, I have no idea what BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS will be like or how good it will turn out, but I'll try to keep you up to date on it. Well, I've got to get back to New York to protect the streets of Hell's Kitchen, Harry.
