Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I was 12 years old when I walked into the local Century theaters opening weekend for Jurassic Park and had my mind altered forever. There are few movies that even stand a chance at affecting the viewer in this way and I was at just the right age for this movie to make a huge impact on me, influence the way I look at cinema and storytelling.
Jurassic Park isn't even my favorite Steven Spielberg movie, but there's no other movie of his that hit me like Jurassic Park did. I felt like I was there on Isla Nublar. I looked up to Dr. Grant. Ian Malcolm felt like a cool uncle. Tim and Lex felt like cousins. The dinos were after ME, not just those on the screen.
The first film is magical, the last top to bottom successful summer event picture Spielberg has done (and this is coming from someone who really, really digs War of the Worlds).
It's finally coming to Blu-Ray packaged with The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3. If Universal follows Fox's plan you can wait a few months to pick up individual titles on Blu, but that's not announced yet.
What is announced is there are two packages you can pick up. One is the movie-only set, the other a Limited Edition set that comes with a rad as hell T-Rex statue! Look!
Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but the date is set, we know there'll be a 6 Part Documentary on trilogy featuring interviews with the actors and Spielberg.
Just having high-def remasters of these films is enough for me, but that T-Rex statue is pretty damn awesome.
Bring on dinos in 1080p!
