Hey folks, Harry here... You know... it's always kinda stunned me how franchises in modern day Hollywood kinda seem to run out of steam after a particular pile of dung is released. Take ALIEN RESURRECTION (now I know some of you like this film, and if you read my original review... I sort of liked it, till the last thirty or so minutes when it blew chunks of wretch like few films could ever vomit up) for example... See... 20th Century Fox seems to believe that the reason the movie didn't do well was that the franchise ran out of legs... rather than the possiblity that the movie just didn't work, and that a far better framework for the film was needed. And... I believe, if you ask fans... the idea of going to the ALIEN's homeworld will... appeal to a large degree, as would a complete mass invasion of Aliens on a futuro-earth. (ala the teaser for Fincher's ALIEN flick) But... ah hell... here's the latest...
don't know if you already heard this or not but I'll send it anyway...I picked this up on www.avpnews.com It's not very encouraging but I suppose there is a glimmer of hope there.
Sigourney Weaver tells SCI FI Wire: "I've always wanted to do one [an Alien movie] where we go back to the planet from which the Alien originally came." This, despite the poor showing of the franchise's last installment, Alien Resurrection. "I don't know that there are any plans to do another one," adds Weaver. "It wouldn't surprise me if some time in the next 20 years or so, you see a white-haired Ripley hobbling around out there. But I haven't heard of anything."
This seems to put to rest rumors last summer of a planned fifth installment already penned by the actress. Weaver says a fifth movie has "never been a serious discussion."
