Metallica and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2'

Well... This would be cool... if it comes to pass. Harry here with the word that Metallica is currently deciding whether or not to contribute to the soundtrack for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2. All I know, is if I were them, I'd do it.. and have John Woo shoot the video... that guy is just plain amazing. That being said... a bit of local AUSTIN cool news... It seems that SAMMO HUNG will be coming to the ALAMO Drafthouse sometime soon (haven't got the dates or the films yet, but soon as I do... I'll let all of you know. I'm quite excited about this) Now onto my man's report...

Hey Harry!

Long time surfer, second time writer.

A little bit of news coming from those on the "ins" at the Metallicamp. Evidently, Metallica is considering contributing to the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. Now, we Metallica fans know that this is ground breaking only because of Metallica's stance when it comes to lending their music to the commercial media......they don't. (Unless you count their allowance of D.J. Spooky to re-mix "For Whom The Bells Toll" for the Spawn soundtrack.....which I don't.)

While there was speculation early last year that Metallica would pitch in and possibly do the opening tune for the credit sequence of The World is Not Enough, it didn't happen.(Thank God they didn't, as that was the most dissapointing Bond film ever created.) Whether this was because of good intuition on their part or being turned down, who knows.

I will throw in my two cents and say this. Mission Impossible was a good awful movie. Now, while John Woo may have his name attached to the incubus' sequel, he isn't the most diverse director. Expect MI:2 to have the same elements of any given Woo film: hammy dialouge, slow motion shots of the protaganist/antagonist in a trench coat either a.) firing their guns while running from explosions or b.) running away from gunfire and trying to avoid explosions, a plot that can be stretched thinner than the dough surrounding a Chinese dumpling, and John Travolta. O.k.....I think I might be wrong about the John Travolta aspect. But Tom Cruise is the same thing......only younger and thinner. Yes....the trailer does show Cruise in a slow motion/long jacket sequence.

If Metallica does decide to lend their music to the film, only one party's credibility will be boosted.....and my friends, it will not be Metallica's.

Til Later,

James.
