Well... I'll be dagdumbed if my name ain't Harry and this here scoop is a looking kinda innuresting in that... hmmmmm.... sorta way. Now, I ain't all about hootin and a hollaring about it... but this here boy has always a been excited by that sort of purple animated lasery type of stuff (like the ID monster and them beams from FORBIDDEN PLANET) and them wings down below... just kinda remind me of that stuff. Might give a looksee if ya gots the time...
Harry,
Middle of last year I became aware of a buzz regarding an indie science fiction film, For The Cause, being made here in LA. The word was that these two brothers, total CGI prodigies, had, on the strength of a 10 minute short film they made, gotten a 3 picture deal from Miramax and they were making a hella cool SF movie. I did some more digging and this is the info that I found.
For The Cause takes place on a planet where a war has been going on for a long, long time. The infrastructure of the planet is decaying and the war is entering a critical phase. A commando team from one side has been given the mission to sneak into the last remaining enemy stronghold and acquire advanced technology to finally end the war.
"Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic"
Arthur C. Clarke said that.(I think) Because the war has gone on for so long, the more advanced weaponry has become like magic to the people who use it; they understand how to make the weapons work but not why they work. Witches are female combat specialists who have mastered very, very advanced technology and use it to materialize objects, weapons on battlefields. The stills that I've seen make me think that this will be a very cool concept, well handled.
I'd heard that they'd finally gotten financing together and had gone to Bulgaria to start shooting. I didn't hear much more until a Wired article a few months ago: CLICK FOR WIRED ARTICLE. This got me interested and a got my hands on a few production photos and a press release. Definitely a film to watch out for sometime this year. Los bros Cohen, Los bros Wachowski, and now Los bros Douglas!
Please check out the attched production stills:

I thought this might be something you'd be interested in; indie, cutting edge SF film. Lemme know what you think.
Thanks,
Jason
