Hey folks, Harry here with a small bit about 2001: A SPACE TRAVESTY... Ugh... I am soooooooo not looking forward to this. Who knows... maybe it'll surprise me, but whew... The last thing I want to see is another Leslie Nielsen spoof film. But... they seem to be inevitable....
Hi Harry, I just read that you and your geek-o-crew are looking for infos on the upcoming movie "2001: A Space Travesty". These are some rather old news and maybe you already know what I am about to tell you since it dates back to the month of August (yes, 1999) but I figured... What the heck do I have to lose? I did not report this at the time because I had no access to the net, but now, I do.
I know that a lot of scenes were shot directly in Montréal (and I know that some special FX were done there too), but the crew of the movie came to my town, Trois-Rivières, which is about an hour and a half away from Montréal, to shoot what is supposed to be the final scene of the movie in a theater. The theater is called "La Salle J.-Antonio Thompson" and was already used in the movie "Isn't She Great" starring Bette Midler. Of course, they asked for extras, but I couldn't go, so I will tell you what I've learned from the local newspapers and other sources. This film stars Leslie Nielsen (from the Naked Gun series) and also a french actress / singer / model called Ophélie Winter. In this particular scene, Leslie Nielsen is wearing a white robe and he has a white cloth on his head (à la Lawrence of Arabia). The action take place during an Opera of some kind, but aside from that, I don't know much. I remember however that the story plot has to do with aliens replacing the president of the United States (hence the title, which is, by the way, just a working title).
Well, it's not much, but it's still better than nothing.
So long...
