After blowing up, flooding, freezing, and generally causing mayhem on Earth, Roland Emmerich's new film now seeks to do the same to the literary world, with ANONYMOUS, which asks the question - what if William Shakespeare didn't actually write his plays and sonnets?
It's got an interesting visual look to it in the trailer - helicopter shots over the Globe Theater and London in olden times. And for an Emmerich film it does have a fairly prestigious cast - Derek Jacobi, Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis - so perhaps there may be something to the script after all. It's possible Emmerich is seeking a new level of respectability after his disaster epics. It's certainly a different film than we're used to from him. Here's the trailer:
If you're going to play Radiohead in your trailer, especially "Everything In Its Right Place," you better deliver. ANONYMOUS opens September 30th, 2011.
