There’s a Belushi shortage in this column and that will be fixed right now. I believe John’s only appeared once before and Jim has nary appeared a once! That aggression will not stand.
The Blues Brothers is a unique movie that is impossible to repeat. Blues Brothers 2000 is proof positive of that. You have a film that has more metal on metal destruction than a dozen Michael Bay giant robot movies combined, more amazing soul music than James Brown’s iPod and the nuttiest cast of any giant comedy this side of those ‘60s cinemascope epics.
It’s an image in time, a moment when Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi and John Landis were at the top of their game and magic was quite literally captured on 35mm film. Not only were they funny there is a real emotion resonance with Jake and Elwood Blues’ journey.
So, this movie is awesome for many reasons, from Steven Spielberg and Frank Oz’s cameos to the hotter-than-the-sun 1980 Carrie Fisher to the brilliant performances of people like Cab Calloway, James Brown, Ray Charles and one of the people featured in today’s pic Ms. Aretha Franklin!
