Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a nice juicy rumor that puts a big smile on my face.
Michael Shannon is that guy who will always be spectacular no matter what the overall quality of a film is. He's been in big budget flicks, small budget flicks, TV... you name it, he's done it. Good films, great films, horrible films... he's done those, too, but he's always, always, always fantastic. Always. No matter how underwritten the character, there's just something about how he approaches his material that adds complexity.
And now, according to Mike Fleming at Deadline he's up for the unnamed villain in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.
If this comes to pass then count me onboard. Michael Shannon is brilliant, but not the go to for studio tentpole projects. What I like about him is that he can play threatening and sympathetic at the same time, so no matter what villain he is Shannon will provide a real, palpable threat to Superman, something no movie has ever really captured... with Superman II coming the closest.
