Update! A Spaghetti Western Involving Quentin Tarantino!?

Beaks here with a quick update...

I still don't have all the pieces of the story (my Tarantino sources have been much more tight-lipped regarding this project than they were on INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS), but here are three things I can confirm: 1) Quentin Tarantino's next film is a spaghetti western, 2) Christoph Waltz is "one of the stars", and 3) that title is completely wrong (even if it got completely mangled by Google Translate, it's still not even close). I cannot confirm plot details at present (though I think I've got the premise).
As for Franco Nero, Keith Carradine and Treat Williams, this is the first I've heard of their involvement, but I'm inclined to believe they're in the mix since I've heard the plan is to shoot the film in Italy and Spain later this year. I've been pressing for confirmation since this morning, but have thus far received no responses to my emails.
It's probably too on the nose for Tarantino to cast Waltz as a German quick-draw artist ala Gerard Herter in Sergio Sollima's THE BIG GUNDOWN, right?
More updates as they (hopefully) come in...

2ND UPDATE: Got the word from Team Tarantino this evening that Quentin is "still writing". What's he writing? It's definitely not an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 40 LASHES LESS ONE as some have speculated (one of my sources was convinced this was out to certain actors under the title of LOBO). It's an original. Is it a western? They ain't saying. So until I hear something official, I'll stand by what I've reported above (all of which came from very trustworthy sources) and see what transpires over the next few months. My feeling is that we're a bit early on this one.

Merrick here...

THIS piece at The Playlist offers an intriguing assessment of a piece originating at Movieplayer (HERE).

Seems Franco Nero (CAMELOT, DJANGO, FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE, DIE HARD 2, and he's a voice for the upcoming CARS 2) has apparently revealed to Movieplayer (in Italian) that he's working on some sort "Spaghetti Western" project with Quentin Tarantino.

Nero says...

“The film will be called ‘The Angel, The Bad And The Wise’ and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot,” Nero said (via Movieplayer). “We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino , Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”

Sounds like the project is still coming together, but it's a highly intriguing notion and I hope this works out. Note that Nero does not specifically say that Tarantino would be directing the picture - only that he's "involved."  This would seem, however, to be a rather excellent fit for Tarantino, so we'll see...
