Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Okay, this photo can be counted as “behind the scenes” because there’s a film camera in it, but the real reason I chose it was for the grouping of icons around that camera (in what is obviously a posed publicity shot).
Of course that’s Charlie Chaplin in the middle and sharp cinephiles will figure out the man on the left is Douglas Fairbanks (hamming it up) and the woman on the right is Mary Pickford. But who is that white-haired gent?
Well that’s the father of one of those featured in the pic. Can you guess who?
It’s a bit of a trick question. That man is the father of the motion picture camera, none other than Mr. Thomas Edison. Or the man who stole everything from Nikola Tesla depending on whose side you fall on, but still it’s a badass shot of the kings (and queen) of the silent era meeting the man who made it all possible (legitimately or illegitimately).
