Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. John Hillcoat's last two films have rocked my socks off. It astounds me THE ROAD somehow slipped through the cracks. How that film wasn't pushed for awards is beyond me. I guess it came out in the wrong time since we have some bleak supernatural art films doing well right now (I'm looking at you Black Swan).
Before that he kicked all sorts of ass with THE PROPOSITION and now Hillcoat is reteaming with writer Nick Cave and star Guy Pearce for his next flick called THE WETTEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD.
When you're done snickering at the title, let's run down the cast for this gangster film, a few of which were just announced by The Hollywood Reporter. Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Mia Wasikowska. Oldman is a gangster that encourages a family of bootleggers in Prohibition-era Virginia and Pearce is a violent deputy cracking down on them.
LaBeouf gets shit on a lot by you guys, but when he has the right material he can be great. And even when he doesn't have the right material you get a sense that he's bringing it his all.
In Hillcoat's hands, from a script by Nick Cave, that cast can mean great things. I, for one, can't wait to see what this flick ends up being.
