Entertainment Weekly reports Maria Bello (“ER,” “A History of Violence”) has been approached to play the lead in the pilot of NBC’s “Prime Suspect,” the American remake of the revered British detective drama.
Helen Mirren was Emmy-nominated six times for her work as hard-drinking Scotland Yard detective Jane Tennison and won twice. Seven seasons aired on ITV between between 1991 and 2006.
Longtime “Desperate Housewives” writer-producer Alexandra Cunningham, who scripted three episodes of “NYPD Blue” early in her career, is overseeing the remake.
