Katie Sagal: Season Seven Hasn't Yet Aired, But Comedy Central Already Wants An Eighth Season of FUTURAMA!!

I am – Hercules!!

TV’s best scripted half-hour, “Futurama,” has just been ordered for an eighth season, star Katie Segal tells Vulture.

The show’s long-ago-ordered 13-episode seventh season doesn’t start airing until this summer (the sixth was the season that aired on Comedy Central last summer), but animation requires lots of lead time. (Well, unless that animation is for “South Park,” which can somehow be conceived, written, voiced and animated in the space of a week or less.)

"Futurama just got ordered again for another season," Sagal told the site while walking the red carpet at the DGA Awards. "I don't know if I'm supposed to say that yet. But it just did."

Vulture says despite Sagal’s comments, formal negotiations with the actors have not yet begun -- but the site was able to confirm that Comedy Central has been quietly touching base with the series’ voice actors to ensure their availability.

Actors’ demands nearly caused the roles of Zoidberg, Farnsworth, Fry, Bender and Leela to be recast – “Ren & Stimpy” style – when the show began its move to Comedy Central. Producers even went so far as to contact casting agents about the roles before agreements between the studio and the actors were finally negotiated.
