Nordling here.
I'd like to be in the room when someone tries to tell Clint Eastwood how he's all wrong to direct another remake of A STAR IS BORN with Beyoncé starring in the Judy Garland role. That would be pretty damn funny.
Look, the fact that Clint's directing a musical drama, according to Deadline, will probably send fans, especially his more, erm, older fans into conniption fits. But Clint's one of the most versatile American directors, ever. He's directed films in practically every genre imaginable, not just Westerns. He's made science fiction (SPACE COWBOYS), romance (THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY), supernatural thrillers (HEREAFTER), comedies (EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE), sports films (INVICTUS), hell, the only movie he hasn't made is a superhero film, and when you're a real-life superhero like Clint, that genre just probably doesn't appeal to you very much.. I'd rather have him take on a more original project, even an original musical, but who's going to tell Clint he can't do something? It's the naysayers that have driven him in his career - tell Clint he can't, and he'll make sure he does it.
No word on who would play the male role, but Clint's familiar with musicals, having himself been in one of the greatest goddamn musicals ever made, will probably bring his quick shoot sensibility to the project. I don't know much about Beyoncé's work ethic when it comes to film, but he'll no doubt challenge her and whoever else he casts. Musicals aren't known for being "one take and done" kinds of shoots, so it'll be interesting to see Clint tackle this material.
Nordling, out.
